The Reservation GHOST is out again - Why ?

The Reservation bill that is planed by the government of India to provide further reservation for SC/ ST/ OBC casts in higher education institutes and government aided and funded institutes is surely once again going to cripple the Indian economy and give rise the hatred and jealousy and intolerance among the youths of India.

We were tought in our history lessons that British were able to rule India because people of India were not united and gave room to them to divide and rule the nation, but what these politician and so called care takers of Indian government and Indian political system are doing, is it not policy of divide and rule. I think this mush worst then that policy of divide and rule because this is going to divide the entire society and now people won't have lines of control for certain areas but each house and each individual will create a line of control around his houses not allowing any SC / OBC/ ST person to cross it.

Why is all this happening? This is the simple question every citizen of our nation is asking today when he see horrifying acts of police atrocities on young doctors, engineers and technocrats of India who being treated as animals and dogs. Why their kids be put to such form of mental stress when they have put in their hard work to reach to this level and now are in the process of shaping their future and put them in service of the nation.

I remember, when I was being sworn in as President of Leo Club of Allahabad Utkarsh in year 1994, our chief guest for the evening, was Mr. B. S. Bedi (former DGP of Jammu & Kashmir). In his speech he urged us to be Tolerant. He said the one big thing I see missing among the youth of the nation is Tolerance. These words of his did leave an impact on me and I felt yes we should be more tolerant towards happening and react after lot of analysis and thinking. But if I meet Mr. Bedi now I will surely ask him, do you still feel we should tolerate. My argument is certainly not that efforts should not me for developing the so called backward classes and scheduled Tribes and castes. But my point is this the correct way of bringing in development or is this who countries world over developed their manpower and their societies.

After Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing, we are always told that it just took 50 odd years for Japan to reach a level where they not the followers but leaders to the new world order. Now the question is what actions or planning various governments have taken to uplift these St /SC and OBC communities. If it can not be done in past 50 years, no one can do it in next 50 years too if, this is the way we want to see this problem.

Certainly as every educationist, bureaucrat, thinker or what ever you name them suggest instead of Reservation in higher studies or jobs, there should be reservation in schooling system which should be equally complimented with a law of compulsory primary education. There should be substantial schools imparting even free education at certain levels and a law that makes it compulsory for every parent to send his child to school until he attains primary education.

My strong words are for the Netas (politicians) of this country that please do not eat this country, and at least leave some room for the people to live with dignity and pound and feel happy and concerned about their neighbors too. If you really wish to see how good or bad this reservation policy can be then ask you son and wards not to use your powers and money to get admission in colleges of repute outside India and join the same path followed by any individual who dreams of getting admitted to a good college and get good education that will help him become a good and productive citizen of India.

Everyone who feel the same for this, please post in your views and reply to me my views. At least I can meet some good professionals who share same thought.

Police in Mumbai used batons to disperse anti-reservation activists as protests spread to many cities. Police moved in when medical students blocked a road and tried to march on the residence of the Governor. In Delhi, medical students stopped work indefinitely to protest police action paralyzing emergency services.Senior resident doctors of all the five medical colleges decided to join the strike against reservations. It means that medical services at Maulana Azad Medical College, Lady Hardinge, UCMS, AIIMS, Mahavir Vardhman College will be affected.Expressing solidarity with medical students, Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Friday asked resident doctors and faculty associations in hospitals in Delhi to go on a 24-hour token strike.

The Indian Medical Asociation (IMA) has also called for a bandh on May 15.

Movement spreads

The protests seem to be spreading as more than 1500 students of the medical colleges in Ahmedabad have also begun indefinite strike in protest against the proposed increase in reservations and police action against the junior doctors in Delhi. The students of B J Medical college, NHL Medical college and self financed K S Shah medical college began their protest demonstration in the morning.

They are expected to be joined in by students of a dozen other government and self financed medical colleges across the state by evening. There are about 15 government and self financed colleges across the state with strength of around 6000 students. The protest rally at the BJ Medical college was taken out amid tight security.

Violent clashes

Delhi witnessed dramatic clashes on Friday as medical students clashed with the police.Determined to put up a fight, nearly 400 medical students faced water canons and tear gas shells at the end of a three-hour march.Right from the beginning, it was an aggressive show of strength. The students had planned to march all the way from Lady Hardinge medical college to the Prime minister's office through Delhi's most high-security zone. As they marched into Connaught place, traffic was forced to stop. For the next three hours, students courted arrests and then the police were forced to take action.First came the water cannons then teargas shells and then the lathis. At least one student was seriously injured and was rushed for emergency care.

Students arrested

The police also began arresting student leaders. Many others volunteered and finally 13 buses full of students were sent to a police station. At the police station, those arrested insisted on signing their names on official documents as Arjun Singh. Out on the streets, the mob violence forced police to impose Section 144 banning the assembling of more than four people in the area, which was a mere one kilometre from Rashtrapati Bhavan. "These are high security zones. You cannot take the law into your hands. Section 144 was on and now we are contemplating legal action," said Manish Agarwal, Additional DCP, New Delhi. And with more protests scheduled everyday Delhi is worried that its streets could spin out of control following the protests.

Patients suffer

Patients across the capital had another harrowing day as emergency services in the capital were completely paralysed with majority of the doctors staying away from the hospitals. In Lok Narain Jai Prakash (LNJP) resident doctors are running a parallel OPD so that patients don't suffer. At AIIMS the hospital's ambulances were taking critical patients to other hospitals.

Pictures of my recent UK visit

In last September I was fortunate enough to visit United Kingdom as member of the Group Study Exhange (GSE) Team of Rotary International of Rotary Distrcit 3050 India. We were in UK and Isle of Man for 1 month and we had opportunitiy to see the country, meet its people, know about their life, living styles and most important understand how our profession is practiced in UK. So here are some of the Picture of that Trip. We are mainly in the reagion of Greater Manchester. This is the area between Manchester and Liverpool and we spent our weeks in Rochdale, Oldem, Warrignton, Weign and Leigh, Bolton.

This picture is at Isle of Man. This small island which has the status of a country though under the dominion Rule of Queen of England is a magnificient place. I could look forward to visit UK again but i am sure I will not be able to visit Isle of Man again. I am here in this picture with my Team member Bhavik ( Chartered Accountant at Bhuj), enjoying one of the ports of the Island.

Among other visits and meeting with senior Rotary Members, we also had opportunity to meet with the Mayors of Rochdale. This picture on the right is our Group Photograph with the Mayor.
